1870-1878 was the time Oscar Claude Monet lived along the Seine with his first wife. He was in his 30's, born in 1840, schooled in art since 14, he worked in a new arena, out of the studio, and painted with intensity and swiftness, to capture the nuances of the scene. Scorned initially, these early paintings are now regarded as some of his most desirable. Established Provenance to the Auerbach collection, New York,1930, through Wonderlin Galleries, 1962, as last sale. Crackling and flecking is minimal, needs cleaning as it has accumulated environmental residue. Frame has upper left edge missing, consequence of mishandling in WWII.Uncatalogued lot, but as with many Monet pieces, variation on a theme he frequently returned to:"Argenteuil". Taking buds, buyer id protected and confidential.
